跨国串门儿计划: #557. Shopify 创始人:AI 时代的公司、产品与长期主义
Skip this appearance: the digest preserves only fragmentary references to Shopify’s IPO and intelligence, with no coherent exchange or distinct insight recoverable. The comparison corpus offers far richer discussions of Shopify, AI, and public-company leadership.
The transcript is highly fragmentary and does not provide any clearly attributable, substantive speech from Tobi Lütke. Because the speaker labels and content are unclear rather than affirmatively showing that he did not participate, participation is left marked true.
Uncapped with Jack Altman: Uncapped #50 | Tobi Lütke from Shopify
Worth hearing for unusually concrete detail on Shopify’s AI-driven performance expectations and Tobi’s approach to compressing organizational timelines. The entrepreneurship and AI-as-talent-amplifier themes overlap with other appearances, but several management insights are fresh within this corpus.
like that I think becomes true and we are saying hey we have like two people they are both equally good programmers 15 minutes ago but one of them like it's just been like completely onto the AI train and just like has sort of back when I wrote this it was really hard to actually [clears throat] get real value out of AI. It was more like the premise of AI was important. Like what do we do in performance reviews and we just like the moment we said like it's like we can't it's it's impact right? I think it's quite like net impact reviews they call with Shopify. So like what's your net impact on the company and the mission? And so, like it's just like very demonstrably true that one of the people was more of more impact. And the moment that is said, it is feels like an incredibly unkind to not tell people. So, so just like, "Hey, let's write it out and send it to everyone."
Tobi Lütke participates extensively in this interview, discussing motivation, founder-led management, product quality, AI adoption, entrepreneurship, infrastructure, and talent. The strongest exchanges focus on his practical operating principles: seek meaningful problems, compress organizational time windows, use AI aggressively, and preserve human judgment and ambition.
The Twenty Minute VC (20VC): Venture Capital | Startup Funding | The Pitch: 20VC: Shopify's Tobi Lütke on How AI is a Scapegoat for Mass Layoffs & What Will Labour Markets Be in the Future | Why We Need More Scrutiny on Charitable Giving, Governments are Bad at What They Do and Trump Derangement Syndrome in Canada
Worth a selective listen: the strongest material is his candid framing of task-based work, scrutiny of wealth, and detachment from Shopify’s stock price. The AI discussion overlaps the corpus, but the labor-market and public-company angles add meaningful range.
Do you think you have a utopian lens? When I look at what Claude can do when it comes to social media design, I'm being blunt. A lot of tasks which are not actually that difficult, but they are execution oriented. I know I've done them so people can't be upset with me for it. Claude does it very well. Now how do you keep that utopian mind with the recognition that most of these tasks are easily replaceable with agents? Look, because none of the people who are doing jobs that are just tasks for other people have good jobs. Both are not good jobs. Being an automated task queue is not a great job. Great jobs are like things where you have agency and can produce things and make things.
Tobi Lütke participates extensively in this episode and discusses AI's impact on layoffs, work, engineering, and future careers. He also offers strong views on wealth, markets, government, education, public-company leadership, and Canada's economic prospects.
David Senra: Tobi Lütke, Shopify
A standout appearance with unusually concrete detail on Shopify’s internal engineering, especially its machine-readable company model and employee-controlled compensation. The entrepreneurship mission overlaps later interviews, but the organizational mechanics and multi-agent workflow are distinctive.
So, we rebuilt our compensation system to be completely the opposite of what everyone else's does. We give people, "Here's your annual salary. Here's an internal system. You go in, you look at it. This is a number. Now you get sliders. You can say, how much do you want in stock? How many do you want in RSU? How much of this do you want in shop cash, actually, and how much do you want in cash?" And you can change it every quarter. It's like you decide how much money you want. And you can even use, like, a tool that's there to lock in the value of the stock you receive for three years.
Tobi Lütke substantively participates throughout the episode, discussing company design, first-principles decision-making, founder-led management, compensation, hiring, AI, and entrepreneurship. The strongest exchanges focus on rebuilding Shopify during COVID, treating organizational design as an engineering problem, changing opinions with better information, and using AI agents in ways reminiscent of strategy games.
